I need the drivers for the unit listed in the subject, in particular

but a precise list of other applicable drivers/devices for future reference would be rather helpful, too.

I used the site s QuickPath to get to the driver s section, but there are several drivers listed, and the ones that I tried e.g. the ethernet driver, don t work, i.e. after installing the driver and rebooting the system, WinXP still says there s no valid driver installed for the ethernet adapter.

Similar experience with the various WiFi drivers I tried.

This is what QuickPath says about the model:

Based 2373-9XG: P M 745, 1GB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HDD, 14.1 SXGA 1400x1050 TFT LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon 9600, 24x24x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, IBM 802.11a/b/g wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

I don t know the details, because a friend bought the system used, and asked me to get the internet working, but neither the WiFi nor the Ethernet adapter seem to have proper drivers.

Well, I bought a Samsung HM160HC, on George s recommendation.  I used Rescue Recovery to back up my old HDD onto a bootable USB HDD and restore it onto the new one.  After a couple of false starts R R couldn t find the first backup on my USB HDD, apparently because I hadn t let it finalize the backup properly, so I did it over, restoration completed successfully, and I rebooted.  R R told me to reboot and then change the boot order so that the computer would boot from the new HDD.  That sounded strange, so as it rebooted I hit F12 and told it to boot from the new HDD.  Unfortunately, all I got was a black screen with a blinking _, which I believe means that the computer didn t find an operating system.

So I rebooted again, and this time I let it boot from the USB HDD.  That worked, and R R started up automatically.  It said it was configuring my system for a while, but then it rebooted automatically.  That happened a few times, so I stopped it, and booted again, hit F1 to get BIOS Set-up, and changed the boot order so the computer would boot from the new HDD.

That got me the black screen and flashing _ again, for a few minutes, then the system booted from the USB HDD again.  That brought up R R, configuring your system, please wait, automatic restart, and the whole cycle starts again.

Anybody got any advice.  And once I get past this, is there firmware out there that ll make my new drive not throw a 2010 error.  The links I ve found for it are all broken--they just redirect to Lenovo s Support page.

OK, I ve ordered an UltraBay HDD adapter so that I can clone my old HDD onto the new one, per AndyP s instructions.  While I m waiting for that to arrive, I wonder if George or anybody else has any opinions about the possibility of flashing official IBM/Lenovo HDD firmware onto the Samsung HM160HC.  There s a discussion on thinkpads.com about doing that on various third-party HDDs.  I haven t read through it, but it appears some people have had success with that.  I m too ignorant to know whether or not it s something I ought to consider, either as an alternative to a modified BIOS or in combination with it.  Any thoughts.

I have a T60 model 2008 thinkpad, and its running on Windows 7. All was going well. Two weeks ago, I noticed that it would get a little hotter than usual. As it had been a year since I opened it, I decided to service it. I used the manual and opened up the laptop, gently removed the heatsink, used compressed air to remove the dust and reinstalled it. I also put a pea drop of thermal paste on the CPU for good measure. Put it all back together and it is running significantly cooler.

I usually use my laptop in Maximum battery mode when unplugged, and for that I keep the system cooling policy to passive. My question is, should the fan be running in that mode. Because ever since I serviced it, my heat sink fan runs in passive mode as well, never noticed it running before in passive mode  and I think it is making my battery run time decrease.

Any ideas on how to fix this or if this is normal will be appreciated. Have a good day all.

I have T61  8896-A67 , and I can t find make it sleep when lid closed, no such option in drop down menu, just have DO NOTHING.

I have Power Managmt Driver v 1.62,

what is ths problem about, I also can t find where is this switch for close lid.

You have a bigger problem than just a missing driver. Keyboards on ThinkPads don t require a specific driver to be installed in order to function.

There s a hardware issue that needs to be addressed. Without more details, I wouldn t even attempt to pintpoint the possible culprit s.

Not sure what more info I can give you.

When I boot xp while docked i get to the account name but can not enter my pw to go further. I am having difficulty troubleshooting. When i wiggle the t61 it seems to help somewhat. I have tried cleaning the contacts and think that has had an effect but it still fails. Should I try replacing the docking station or has anyone had the problem and found a solution.

I am getting this error message in T61, which has XP pro. I tried what ever I found on internet to resolve it, but no solution. I booted with window 98 to get command prompt, and used fdisk/mbr, again no success.

I took out harddisk and connected to other laptop and I can see there are two partition on harddisk, and one of them is recovery partition.

Is there any way I can make bootable XP cd with the data present in recovery partition by attaching this hard disk  as external drive to other laptop.

Or is there any way to update the missing files which are giving this error.

I m trying to update the BIOS on my T42p current version is 3.13 to 3.23, I ran update utility, but nothing happens after laptop restarted. I m following the update procedure, but looks like somehow procedure doen t work.

Does somebody met this problem.

Hello - My T60P did not come with the recovery disk back in the day. Before this, I was able to reformat using onboard recovery. After a run-in with the Data Recovery scareware, I want to reformat, but I am unable to use the onboard recovery to return to factory state. Hitting the blue button allows me to select the drive to boot from. What should I do / how can I recover the onboard recovery so I can return this laptop to factory state. - Dan

If you disable system entering suspend or hibernate, you can power off screen by closing the lid.

Windows power manager should do it on a timed basis, but an active task will usually prevent it. As for a key, there probably is one, but I ve never looked into it. Maybe someone else can give you a better answer.

I did something bad on my Thinkpad T43 2668, now I have black screen on booting, can t Access IBM, can t press any Function Key, can t boot from CD.  Here s what I ve done:

1. Got unwanted winxp sp3 automatic updates, then,  Restored to pervious point via Winxp system restore, then, can t boot  system; can t  boot from Winxp CD either;

2. Boot from Linux Live CD, formate harddisk and install ubuntu, Hidden Area Partition is not removed, still there;

3. Can boot Linux OS, but black screen at booting. There s no way to see what s going on at booting; Pressing any function key or IBM bottons doesn t return any result, still boot into Linux;

4. Can t boot from any legal bootable CD except Ubuntu Live CD;

5. No way to access Bios to set boot sequence, so, can t boot from USB floppy either;

PS. I tried Linux live CD a while ago before this trouble, clicked Help me boot from CD, got installed something. I guess that s something installed out of box and that s why currently I can boot from Linux Live CD.

How to Find and remove bios backup battery.

it s now boots properly under linux. How to enter Bios under Linux without the function keys.

I think there is a misunderstanding here.  Perhaps it s mine.

There s no enter BIOS under Linux.   Accessing BIOS happens before Linux would start to boot, just as it works under Windows.  Neither OS is involved with the initial POST process when the function keys _should_ give you access to the BIOS configuration or boot menu.

Something has fiddled with your BIOS and left it in a confused state. You really need to remove the main battery and the BIOS backup battery, then press and hold the power button for several seconds.

Actually, you can try pressing and holding the power button with only the main battery removed.  That works to clear CMOS on some desktops.  I m not sure if it s effective on ThinkPads.

Remving the batteries may not fix your problem, but from what you describe it is a necesary next step.  It may well get you up and running.

BTW, wandering a little OT I hope there was a nasty Linux e1000 driver/kernel bug that  could brick machines with the Intel gig-E NIC IIRC.   It was quickly fixed, and I don t know if it made it into any Ubuntu derivitives.  What kernel version is your Linux running.

edit   I think your TP has a Broadcom NIC.  The e1000 bug wouldn t your machine regardless of kernel version.

Other things to try before bios battery reset, since the OP is not skilled in dis-assembly:

Boot without battery, press F1 and see if you can enter bios setup.

Now put battery in and see if it shuts down, or screen blanks.

And zoltan, I was cheering when I thought the old hold down the

power button trick worked for once. Rats is right.

Good suggestions.  Fingers crossed.

Yeah, that AC off reset is a necessity of life with an Intel desktop I have, but I haven t heard of it working on a StinkPad either

I also have a T60p model 2613ETU and at some point this year my fan also started making that incredibly annoying buzzing sound. It would get really loud, to the point where I could feel my entire laptop vibrating. Well, I have installed the newest BIOS update, and so far it seems this may have fixed the problem.

Still, can anyone provide a little more information on this bug and whether it was present in previous BIOS versions. Because my fan never used to make any noise and I was under the suspicion that it was failing me. I m seriously considering buying a replacement fan, though they seem difficult to locate.

Thanks. But I am now more confused since that manual has two enties for the 2613-CTO, as follows. Which one do I order. What is the meaning of the E2x, E3x. Etc..
